Extra info on Eswarah

Eswarah arrived to Michael Jarvis as an unraced two year old after the retirement of her previous trainer Ben Hanbury, she had been described by Ben as being “above average”.

She started off in a maiden at Newbury before winning the Listed Sweetenham Stud trial at the same venue.

On the back of these two victories she was made favourite for the Oaks which she went on to win in impressive fashion. Pitted against her older male rivals in the King George she ran with credit finishing eighth. Due to her high value as a broodmare she was later retired after her final race at the Yorkshire Oaks where she finished fourth. Although her star didn't shine for very long, it shined very bright as she was a filly of the highest quality.

Fun fact: At the time, she was the only horse ever to have been bred from an Oaks winner to then go on and win the Oaks. It was also at her Oaks victory that Stephen and his close friend and fellow farrier Tony Malia had the pleasure of meeting Bart Cummings, a legend of Australian Racing and trainer of a record 12 winners of the Melbourne Cup.

Stephen recalls, "Tony (who would later introduce me to my future wife Alison) and I both worked at the time for O.A Curtis and Sons, I had shod Eswarah in front and Tony shod her behind, so it such a memorable day for us to shoe our first Classic Winner and meet Mr Cummings especially as Tony was Australian.
