Cursory Glance
Cursory glance
When Stephen started Shoeing for Roger Varian in the January of 2014 he looked after his Woodlands Stable which housed 45 horses. Stephen’s pick of these was a daughter of Distorted Humour named Cursory Glance.
Stephen recalls:
“Cursory Glance was a beautiful filly who seemed to grow and strengthen as every week passed by. I recall thinking she had everything you would want in a horse and wasn’t at all surprised to see her excel at an elite level”
Only raced as a 2 year old Cursory Glance made her first racecourse appearance a winning one. Such was the striking manor of her victory she next appeared at Royal Ascot where she contested the Group 3 Albany Stakes. This jump in class proved no obstacle and again she ran out an impressive winner.
Cursory Glance who always give the impression she would develop into a middle distance horse took on some exceptionally fast filled in her next assignment, York’s Lowther Stakes.
An excellent second against Tiggy Wiggy in a race in which the first three horses home lowered the track record for 2 year old fillies was a supreme effort.
A step up in both trip and company was next in the agenda and she traveled to Ireland to contest the prestigious Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes run over 7 furlongs at the Curragh. Sent off the 11/8 favourite she did not disappoint and her last appearance on the racecourse was a winning one.
Stephen recalls, “Cursory Glance was a beautiful filly and was the first Group 1 horse I shod for Roger. I held her in great affection and am of the opinion that she was one of the most talented fillies I have had the pleasure of working with”
